Baleful Creed – ‘Crazy Man’

Baleful Creed – ‘Crazy Man’

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again (and probably many times more in future), Northern Ireland has more great Rock bands per square mile than anywhere else in the world. Just below the bigger bands such as Million $ Reload, Trucker Diablo and Stormzone are another tranche of bands snapping at their heels. The most enjoyable thing is that they all have their own character and style. It’s not a case of 10 bands jumping on an ‘DC, G ‘n’R, Maiden or ‘Tallica bandwagon at the same time. It’s also pleasing to see the variation in ages of bands, showing once again that Rock transcends more barriers than most genres.

Baleful Creed are of the ‘older’ bracket, the guys won’t mind me saying that. But it doesn’t mean they are irrelevant or should be pensioned off to the cover circuit. B.C. is clearly heavily influenced by Black Sabbath, with guitarist John Allen proving a master of getting a similar tone and feel to Iommi without resorting to out-n-out cloning.  But I feel that like AIC, Danzig, Soundgarden etc before them, they have taken inspiration from Sabbath but have used that inspiration to create their own little niche.

Baleful Creed has released several E.P.’s since its inception, each one showing increasing confidence. As a means to raise some cash to record an album, the boys have remastered 10 songs from these E.P.’s and packaged them together as an album which they are selling at  http://balefulcreed.bandcamp.com/  for the knock down price of only £3. Trust me it is well worth £3. To accompany the release of the album, the boys have put together this very professional promo video.

If I am honest, ‘Crazy Man’ is not my favourite song on the album, but it certainly gives you a flavour of what the band is all about; namely riffs, riffs and more riffs. And hey, if you like ‘Crazy Man’, you are bound to love the rest of the album. So get on it folks. This is a band that is worth a listen and if they can maybe just distill a little more succinctly what they want to do vocally and perhaps avoid some of the more cliched lyrical aspects when putting together album number 2, then we may have another really top notch local Rock band on our hands.
