But fair play to Rory (Powers) and Kit (Grier), they have come up with an undeniably catchy wee tune that I can easily imagine getting a lot of airplay, and a few licensing opportunities as well. I do tend to find this type of ‘video game soundtrack’ music a tad twee and the melody style is very much ‘High School America’ but, in fairness, the lyrics themselves, while not covering new ground (the trials of growing up in a small town), are well done and keep the song as a whole just on the right side of cheesy. It’s feel-good, not feel sick.
And in the final analysis, it’s not about an aul geezer like me thinks, it’s about what the public want and, given the popularity of this style of electronic pop worldwide, TeamRKT may have their collective finger right on the pulse.
