And so another month begins; it is hard to believe April is upon us already. Last week was a major disappointment for me as a persistent dose of man flu kept me from attending Axis Of’s album launch show at the Empire (though we do have some photos and a review coming soon!). Thankfully to help erase my disappointment there are a stack load of brilliant gigs this week too.
Transmit presents Fresh Meat #2 – Limelight 2 – Wednesday 3rd April 2013
Ours pals at Transmit have put on another showcase of the finest up and coming bands in the country. Featuring In Elegance, Hologram, Vanilla Gloom, Nijinsky, The Big Grizzly and Amateur Historians, there is something there for everyone.
Tickets available on the door for £3.
Jeff Scott Soto – Limelight 2 – Thursday 4th April 2013
This is a real treat for fans of American rock. Jeff Scott Soto, lead singer of Talisman and countless other bands including a stint as front man of Journey comes to Belfast to seduce us. The main purpose of this appearance is to showcase songs off his new solo album but we have it on good authority that there will be plenty of older material from all stages of his career on show.
Tickets are available for £15 on the door or from Ticketmaster for £13.50
Pocket Billiards – Stiff Kitten – Thursday 4th April 2013
Fresh from supporting Axis Of launch their album last week in the Empire, the ska-punksters Pocket Billiards visit the Stiff Kitten to cause some much needed chaos. Shizznigh Promotions have organised a strong supporting bill in the form of Concrete Circus, Chocolate Love Factory, Suckin Diesel and Hardcase too.
Tickets available on the door for £6
David Ford – The Empire – Sunday 7th April 2013
Who doesn’t like a hard-working musician, well David Ford fits this title well. He tours relentlessly as well as playing plenty of house gigs and weddings but his appearance as a support to Duke Special in the Ulster Hall all the way back in 2007 really stood him out as a talented singer songwriter. If you are free this Sunday get yourself down you won’t be disappointed.
Tickets available on the door or from Ticketmaster for £12.
Special Mention:
This Friday local rockers and one of the entrants in our Kickstarter competition, Novo Rapids, launch their debut EP. Their rifftastic performance atop the SO:NI line up will be completmented by sets from two other Kickstarter entrants, Rocket Propelled Gorillas and Kept Under Glass, as well as the intriguing Silver’s Got Strings.
