WATCH: SAINT SISTER - TIN MAN

A must-watch, must-listen from Morgan MacIntyre and Gemma Doherty, our own Saint Sister. ‘Tin Man’, released through Communion Singles Club, is deeply captivating, very appropriately coined ‘atmosfolk’ by Nialler9. Saint Sister break from the traditionally earthy trappings of the genre and produce a sound that is uniquely ethereal.

Directed and produced by Bob Gallagher, the video seamlessly renders the silver screen classic Wizard of Oz with TV classic Blind Date. The switching aspect ratios and nostalgic technicolor ambience make for a mesmerizing video, perfectly coloring Saint Sister’s ambient folk.

Recorded with Alex Ryan, MacIntyre notes an admiration for John Donne’s poem ‘The Sun Rising’ behind the track. A classic poem that places its lovers at the centre of the universe and takes romantic ambition into the realm of the metaphysical, a romantic sensibility we can listen to at the heart of ‘Tin Man’.

Beating-heart rhythms animate the track. An ambient and ever-swirling instrumental that runs alongside the hopeless romance of the narrative. The hook cuts deep: “The Tin Man will not desert me”.

Between its imaginative videography and graceful, understated narrative, Saint Sister’s ‘Tin Man’ beautifully negotiates romance and leaves an impression not soon forgotten.
