Moon Landing is led by multi-instrumentalist Jake McCrea and in 2023 they won our Kickstart programme. One of the prizes from the competition was for the incredible Jamie Neish of Broken Film NI to produce a music video for a future single.
Moon Landing also took part in the Oh Yeah Centre’s Scratch My Progress programme and through it McCrea and the band recorded a new single, ‘It’s A Big Small World’. The song is grandiose in scale and ambition, underpinned by a stunning brass arrangement. It manages to capturing a rich vein of emotion across a varied and constantly fluctuating soundscape.
Jake had this to say: “‘It’s a Big Small World’ is the first song that we wrote together as a full band, we chopped and changed it quite a bit until it eventually settled into what it is now! Lyrically, it’s about feeling disconnected but still trying to make sense of everything, especially in a world that feels increasingly fragmented. It really stems from family living with dementia, and how frightening the world can be with that illness. It simultaneously makes the world feel big and scary while also feeling small through isolation.”
Jamie at Broken Film NI has done a wonderful job of putting together a distinctive and striking video to accompany the track and show off the full Moon Landing band for the first time. We are thrilled to have been able to offer up this opportunity to Moon Landing and are delighted with the results from Jamie.
Moon Landing play Gifted at the Belfast Empire on Thursday 10 April 2025. Get down and hear It’s A Big Small World in person alongside a heap of new music the band have been hard at work recording.
