Introducing #63: CQD

Name: CQD
Formed: Summer 2012
Hometown: Belfast
Genre: Alt Rock
Line-up: Daithi Greene, George Patterson, Ryan Hart & Peter Taylor

◀ Q & A ▶

▶ Tell us about your band name?

CQD stands for Close Quarters Distress. It was the distress signal used on the Titanic; that big ship from Belfast. We decided to call ourselves that, because it’s cliche and we’re cool like that. Our goal is to exceed expectations.

▶ When did you start playing music and how would you describe your sound?

We all played music from a young age and we met in school so that’s how we started playing together. We all listen to a similar kind of music so that’s where we get our sound from: guitar driven music, bands like The Strokes, Two Door Cinema Club and Arctic Monkeys.

▶ What releases have you put out so far?

We’ve recorded 4 songs professionally so far and they’re all on our soundcloud page.

▶ Is there a particular live show which stands out amongst all the rest?

I think we all enjoy different shows but a favourite of all of our would be playing Holywood Culture Night in the fire station which was really fun.

▶ Can you talk about a Highlight and a low point of the journey so far

I’d say our highlight would be the great response we get to our music, it’s really great to hear all the nice things people have to say. We can’t really think of low point of our journey, maybe all the stress of being in the studio, trying to get things done in a limited amount of time.

▶ If you weren’t musicians how would you spend your spare time?

We’d love to do something in music, but if we couldn’t we’d probably be an architect, a lawyer, a poet and an accountant.

▶ If you were to go on a world tour and you could pick any 3 acts come along, who would they be?

The Strokes, Queens of the Stone Age and Kanye West

▶ What would be the 3 strangest things on your rider if you were able to make any demand?

Just the red skittles, a belt buckle & a waffle maker

▶ Who has been your biggest inspiration as a musician?

Jimi Hendrix and Jack White

▶ Is there a particular aim or goal which you hope to achieve through music?

For everyone to like our music and eventually world domination.

▶ Are there any other Northern Irish musicians we should check out?

Hot Cops

▶ What is next for you?

We’ve got a few gigs coming up in the not too distant future and hopefully we’ll be able to get some more recording done soon as well as we’ve got loads of unrecorded material we’d love to share.
