Last year our good friends at Snow Water asked us to curate a line-up at the Sound Yard for Belfast’s Maritime Mile. We hosted Ciara O’Neill, Rosborough, Charline Hanlon & Sarah Toner and while it may have been a little chilly, it was a wonderful afternoon.
Snow Water and Maritime Belfast put on a fabulous programme of live events in May and are doing the same in August. We are thrilled to say we have been asked to put together another line-up as part of their August programme.
On Sunday 6th August 2023, we hope you’ll join us on the Martime Mile for four very special performances. Our three venues (SoundYard, Abercorn and Hamilton Dock) will play host to some of our most promising prospects throughout the afternoon. Our 2023 line-up features Cathal Francis, Lucy Bell, Róise & Sasha Samara and similar to last year is completely free to attend.
You can find out more information about our line-up and the rest of the Maritime Mile August 2023 programme over on the Maritime Belfast website.
Drawing inspiration from The Beatles, Elliott Smith and Adrianne Lenker, 23-year-old Cathal Francis is a indie folk singer-songwriter from the border townland of Culmore in Northern Ireland. His best friend’s dad gave him an electric guitar at the age of 11 and the rest is history.
Lucy Bell is a musician whose distinctive voice and folk tones bring a unique take to her pop style. She places her own stamp on music bringing enthusiasm and energy with self-penned songs that portray both folk and pop leanings. She is currently working on her debut EP due to be released this year. Lucy’s calming voice has been said to fit in nicely on playlists with the likes of Gabrielle Aplin and Ellie Goulding
The career of 18-year-old, Belfast-born singer-songwriter Róise McHugh has only gone from strength to strength since its beginnings in 2018. She draws listeners in with her distinctive vocals and meaningful lyrics inspired by artists such as Lizzy McAlpine and Orla Gartland. Róise was awarded Irish Youth Music Awards Songwriter Award 2018 along with gaining a spot on the Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition Longlist 2019. Róise has recorded with the Ulster Orchestra and filmed a documentary with the Duncairn arts Centre in Belfast.
Sasha Samara is an exciting, new voice in indie pop music. Coating her music in an endearing honesty, she threads together observations and exclamations that are underlined by a thrilling specificity. All of this is achieved through open and soaring vocals reminiscent of Hayley Williams and writing with the characteristic clarity of Maggie Rogers. With support from PRSF funded ‘Scratch My Progress’ program, and a Northern Irish Music Prize for Best New Artist in 2020, Sasha has been carefully cultivating her debut EP, which is available now.
