We love to focus our attention on musicians and bands from Northern Ireland, we receive submissions from all over the world. Our No Fixed Abode feature shines a light on artists and bands from further afield that we think you should hear.
Supercaan – Ricochet
Pulsing synths and a deep post punk feel are the order of the day for Supercaan. They aren’t shy about their influences as the likes of New Order & Depeche Mode immediately spring to mind. The single is taken from their second album, ‘A Tiger Walks The Streets’ which will be released in the Autumn. Early support from Tom Robinson suggests they’re definitely ones to watch.
Stan-H – 1679
1679 marks Stan-H’s attempt at writing in a pop-punk emo style. There are references to blink 182 but it feels a little closer in nature to alt-rock powerhouses You Me At Six. There is a slight rawness in play which makes it more appealing than a lot of the over polished material coming out of the genre.
Actve Captve – I Can’t Explain
Actve Captive’s Justin Han discards his background as a classical pianist and seasoned blues drummer for a spacey indie rock number. A song about running from a feeling that seems too overwhelming to handle. There are hints of The Killers crossed with the soaring emo rock of Jimmy Eat World that suggest the divergence was worthwhile.
Moon Blue – Woke Up Thinking Of You
It wouldn’t be a No Fixed Abode without some swirling synth based indie. This time it comes by way of Moon Blue who throw out shades of RnB and Psychedelia to go along with the breezy indie feel. A poignant tribute to George Appleton’s grandfather who recently passed away. If you’re looking for a slightly more laid back Tame Impala, you’ve come to the right place.
Jealous of the Birds – Cynic’s Song
It seems no time ago that Jealous of the Bird first appeared on the scene, it is hard to believe we’re now enjoying album number three from her. Cynic’s Song is majestic and beautiful. It is a simple acoustic arrangement that lets Naomi’s lyrics hit home and those fleeting appearances of harmonica that leave it dripping in nostalgia.
