Limavady native Emmét McGonagle’s latest release ‘No One Likes The Good Guys These Days‘ marks a real step up in ambition and we are thrilled to unveil the accompanying music video.
Shot by Re-Act Productions, the kaleidoscope-esque visuals fit well with the trippy nature of the track. Emmét’s vocals are deeply rooted in melancholic territory but the layered & unconventional percussion adds an extra dimension that keeps our attention. McGonagle’s latest certainly wouldn’t look out of place on the next Ben Howard or Damien Rice album.
“I wrote ‘Good Guys’ about my best friend Owen in the wake of his first big relationship. Funnily enough, the breakup itself wasn’t too catastrophic, but I remember him toying with the idea that his now-ex-girlfriend just didn’t like decent men – preferring instead the edgy-rebel type with a worn leather jacket and a poorly maintained beard – and that’s why things didn’t work out between them. Obviously, I decided this was a perfect opportunity to send him non stop messages about http://www.go-binder.com/ and to lovingly take the piss out of him in song-form, so that’s exactly what I did. He was way better than her anyway. It’s also worth mentioning that I’ve coincidentally released this song on Owen’s 21st birthday – Happy Birthday, buddy!”
