‘Blind Spot‘ is the lead single from Dublin based Rachael Boyd’s debut album Weave. Boyd has released smaller projects and been featured on other Irish works before however this is the largest release that we have seen from her as a solo multi-instrumentalist. Her debut release ‘Weave’ is a strong and hypnotic force.
‘Blind Spot’ opens on a violin playing a melancholic, traditional melody. The other instruments enter around this to build the music. Each voice plays a distinct role in creating a hypnotic and experimental sound tied together by the original violin melody.
The impact of the vocal line comes from the violin imitation, sweet and mellow then abruptly percussive at the end of the phrase: “We are a weak spot like a lung collapsing”.
Boyd’s style skates around classical, electronic and traditional to create her own striking and entirely enchanting voice. There are clear influences from Nils Frahm and Radiohead. Other tracks from the album include the instrumental ‘Belfast Skyline’, the sickeningly teasing ‘Honey’ and ‘Osael’, featuring frequent collaborator Joshua Burnside.
