Derry/Belfast based Sister Ghost showed their potential last year with double A side ‘Spineless Whisper / Little Lamb’, two angsty tracks calling on influences from late eighties / early nineties punk. Combined with an always blistering live show, the band marked themselves out as ones to watch and were picked up by the Oh Yeah Centre’s Scratch My Progress programme.
The band have now returned with new single ‘Growing Pains‘. Developing further on their garage punk aesthetic, ‘Growing Pains’ draws further influence from that era with frontwoman Shannon D O’Neill’s vocals backed by a wash of overdriven, chorus-dipped guitars. The video, shot by Belfast’s Colm Laverty, is a tongue-in-cheek homage to DIY practice sessions gone wrong and cult film The Warriors.
It’s felt like a long wait for new music from Sister Ghost, ‘Growing Pains’ is a welcome return from a band who continue to impress.
