RECreate: Alana Henderson
Saturday 26th April 2014 – Lost & Found, Coleraine
Saturday the 29th April saw RECreate host their 1st birthday celebration by having a gig in the newly opened Lost and Found in Coleraine. RECreate, during their first year have been showcasing talent from Northern Ireland, as well as some from across the globe, in acoustic video sessions. These so far have collectively gained 100,000 views. Their 1st Birthday sees them delve into the concert scene for the first time showcasing Alana Henderson.
Alana is an act that I have wanted to see for a long time as I was entranced by her debut EP ‘Wax & Wane’. Her live show, despite my best laid plans and efforts has always slipped through my grasp. So as you can imagine I was thrilled to be given the opportunity to see Alana perform in such an intimate environment!
As Alana took to the microphone I could feel my already heightened expectations bubbling over in the silence before she started into set opener ‘Song about a Song’. By the end of this track the audience were hooked on her every word. The set seemed to drift seamlessly from one track to the other, as the sun set over the church spire seen through the coffee shop window. Highlights included the likes of ‘The Tower’, ‘Legacy’, ‘Museum of Thought’ and ‘Two Turtle Doves’. Going from plucking to strumming and then to bowing her Cello there was never a point when I began to get tired of listening. In this intimate environment these songs were showcased perfectly.
Final Song of the set ‘Wax and Wane’ brings the set to a beautiful close; perhaps her most well known song demonstrates best her lyrical ability and folk styling. I do wish that the venue was more full, as many missed out on the fantastic opportunity to see this wonderful Northern Irish talent.
