We all have a few bands that we absolutely adore and can’t understand why they aren’t more popular. R51 fall in to that category for us with two quite excellent singles (& it must be said b-sides for that matter) under their belts, they are preparing to unleash their debut EP on the unsuspecting public.
We are delighted to have the first exclusive stream of the leading single from the record, ‘Absolutely Nothing’. Starting with trippy synths and the unmistakeable piercing vocals from Melyssa Shannon, first impressions are unsurprisingly positive.
That trademark brooding shoe-gaze remains ever present amongst the bones of a lusciously layered pop song that the likes of Ballet School would be proud of. That being said there are still enough riffs present even if they are nowhere near as heavy as those found on older release ‘I Could Kill You Sometimes’.
Oh so dreamy but oh so dark, with the EP launch penciled in for 25th March, you can bet we’ll be talking a lot about R51 over the next few months.
You can purchase ‘Absolutely Nothing’ via R51’s Bandcamp page.
