Derry indie rockers The Clameens have had an exciting few years as a band. They carried the torch for Northern Irish music beyond these shores, with highlights including Liverpool’s Sound City and even a string of festival dates all the way to India. The young band were chosen as one of MTV’s hottest unsigned bands in 2014, and were signed to 25 Hours Convenience Store, the label of The Libertines’ Gary Powell; a band clearly close to The Clameens’ hearts. All this without mentioning the string of infectious indie-rock tracks they’ve released over the years. Sadly all good things must come to an end, with the four-piece announcing the end of the band last month.
For one final send off the band announced their last ever show, taking place this Friday night in Sandinos, Derry. The completely free show will feature several other Derry stalwarts in Susie Blue, Lost Avenue and Green Room.
Alongside the show, the band confirmed they have one last EP set for release, with details to be released soon. The first track from the ‘Stroked’ EP, ‘Melted’, is available to stream now. ‘Melted’ has The Clameens formula down pat. The guitar-based indie rock, the swagger of frontman Sean Breslin’s vocals and a big and brash chorus.

“Over the past few months we have discovered that things have happened within the band which we have found difficult to understand and come to terms with. Unfortunately it has altered our outlook on the bands future and although we have tried we feel like we can’t overcome this.
It’s been very hard for us to bounce back and keep the wheels turning. Therefore we unfortunately feel that the only way for us to move forward with our lives and move on from what has happened is by calling it a day.
The purpose of the band for us was simply to write good music, have fun and work hard for something we loved and maybe some day forge a career out of it. We will look back on the life of the band with fond and amazing memories and unfortunately some not so fond.
This isn’t a decision that we have taken lightly nor was it made overnight. We feel like we have been backed up against a wall with this decision. Keeping going with the band doesn’t feel like an option when it’s been tainted with lies and mistrust.
We have put so much into this band and it was a way of life for us for 4 years, working hard to achieved our goals. So musically, financially and in terms of our relationships we just could not go back to square one and repair the damage that was inflicted.
From the four of us we would like to thank everyone who has genuinely helped us over the years and those who wanted to see us succeed and enjoy ourselves!! There are just too many amazing people to thank each one individually but you all know who you are and please know that we really really appreciate it from the bottom of our hearts! We would not have achieved half of the things we did if it had not been for you guys helping, supporting and cheering us on.”
