Mere Moths – Time

Mere Moths – Time

Singer/Songwriter and Dromore based Patrick Wright released EP ‘Time’ back in October of last year under the name Mere Moths. Citing influences as The Black Keys and Fall Out Boy to name a few, this stripped down EP is one of the more chilled out set of songs you’ll find coming out of Northern Ireland in recent years.

The EP’s title track is a soothing progression of minimal guitar lines mixed with low key drum tracks played preciously with brushes. The vocal melodies are simplistic and with added reverb that smoothes the dynamic transitions between the verse and chorus. Thrown into the mix at the end of the track is an effortless lead guitar line, with enough treble and distortion to cut through the mix perfectly.

The second track ‘Save You’, sees Mere Moths following on a similar structure, although a bit more upbeat that the previous track. A more melodic guitar section is used, and while the vocal melodies are still covered with reverb processing, the dynamics of Patricks voice are enough to push the track forward in a more uplifting manner.

With a number of local shows approaching, and a slot at the Portstewart Songwriters Festival to boot, along with the soothing sounds of his guitar and effortless vocal melodies, Mere Moths have crafted a collection of songs that have helped hone the songwriting ability of Patrick and showcase his talents exceptionally well.
