I haven’t been at too many live shows as late mainly due to other commitments but last Thursday’s Creative Belfast showcases gave me a real taste for gigs again. We’ll have a feature on the night in question hopefully later this week but in the mean time, get back out and support your local scene with these three choice picks.
Meb Jon Sol – Voodoo, Belfast – Wednesday 22nd October 2014
The second Civilization gig marks an album launch for the folksy bluegrass of Meb Jon Sol. Southpaw Ninos is exactly what you would expect from the Belfast native and proves a rollicking listen. Live it should definitely be no different and on the evening he will be joined by Bronagh Broderick & Ross Maguire.
Admission is £5.
7.5 Tonnes of Beard – Voodoo, Belfast – Thursday 23rd October 2014
As you might imagine a band featuring members of ASIWYFA, Diet Pills, Residual Effect, Stand-up Guy and Gacy’s Threads pack a formidable punch. If sludgy riffs are your think, you’ll have a wonderful evening. Plus if things weren’t heavy enough already the two supports in Hornets and Zlatanera will add some further weight.
Admission is £5
Ciara O’Neill – Sunflower Bar, Belfast – Sunday 26th October 2014
Self prescribed folk from the darker end of the spectrum, Ciara O’Neill presents an evening of Melancholy. Don’t be put off though by the melancholy or darkness the folk is dreamy rather than nightmarish. Support comes from singer songwriter Edelle McMahon.
Admission is £5 on the door
