Dark and brooding is the perfect description for the latest release by Co Antrim native Amy Montgomery. Not an original number this time but a hypnotic and edgy like cover of Donovan’s Season of the Witch.
While the chanting could be seen as a little simplistic, Montgomery’s powerful vocals are engaging enough to overcome this potential issue. Indeed this rendition of the song proves to be a more haunting in nature, with a distinctly tribal feel hanging over it.
While Season of the Witch doesn’t necessarily flaunt her full soulful range, it does demonstrate that she has more than one string to her musical bow.
Amy Montgomery plays the Limelight, Belfast on Friday 27th September before embarking on a tour that includes dates in Australia, Germany before she returns to Ireland.
