Robert Brown by Robert Brown

Introducing: #71 – MOSA

Name: MOSA
Formed: Early 2015
Hometown: Belfast
Genre: Alternative/Psychedelic
Line-up: Sean Hogan, Carl Small, James Conway & Luke Harrison

◀ Q & A ▶

▶ Tell us about your artist/band name?

MOSA stands for Mind Open Soul Awake but we just prefer to be called MOSA, we don’t really know where it came from, we were messing about with a few different names after we were coming off the back of our previous band and MOSA just kinda grew on us so it stuck.

▶ When did you start playing music and how would you describe your sound?

Well we first got together at the end of 2009 when we were teenagers and just started jamming, very quickly we got bored of covers so we just started writing our own songs and we have just been growing and developing ever since, Our sound has gone through a lot of changes from Indie to Grunge and then it naturally started to develop into what it is now, which is a bit of a mix of with some Psychedelic sounds thrown in.

▶ What releases have you put out so far?

We have just released our debut EP which is available on our bandcamp page.

▶ Is there a particular live show that stands out amongst all the rest?

Our favourite show has to be when we supported Wolf Like Me in The Loft in August 2015. It was the first time we played to an audience live as MOSA and the feedback we received was fantastic! Good vibes all round and Wolf Like Me played a blinder!

▶ Can you talk about a Highlight and a low point of the journey so far?

Our Highlight has been when we first started releasing our new music and the feedback that it has gotten, more people have started pay attention to what we are doing so thats a nice feeling. Our only low point so far was the wait to release our debut EP to ensure we were all happy with it first.

▶ If you weren’t a musician(s) how would you spend your spare time?

We really can’t imagine doing anything else in our spare time, but we have discussed it and we all agree that opening an aquarium would be pretty cool, so who knows, maybe we will look into that if all goes south.

…..Wanna buy a fish?

▶ If you were to go on a world tour and you could pick any 3 acts come along, who would they be?

We have far to many bands that we like to choose from, we would just be happy enough to tour in general.

▶ What would be the 3 strangest things on your rider if you were able to make any demand?

Hand lotion, Rope and baby wipes …..Don’t ask.

▶ Is there a particular aim or goal which you hope to achieve through music?

Well of course we would love it to be our full time jobs, but i guess what we really care about is that our fans feel the same passion as we do about our music.

▶ Who has been your biggest inspiration as a musician?

Well we all have a load of different influences that have shaped who were are as people so that then comes out in our music, but some of our agreed upon influences include Nirvana, Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pink Floyd, Jeff Buckley. That kinda vibe.

▶ Are there any other Northern Irish musicians we should check out?

There is a whole host of talent in this country but some some of our favourites that we have played with include Wolf Like Me and Salad Boyz but we also really love bands like R51 and Mons Olympus.

▶ What is next for you?

To start playing as much gigs as we can, we also hope to book some english dates for later in the year.
