It wouldn’t be a summer in Bangor without the plethora of events that the Open House Festival unleash on the town every year. 2016 is no different with the festival hosting over 130 events across 40 of the town’s venues.
This year’s programme as usual features a host of music, theatre, film and food & drink. The events usually sell out fairly quickly so we would advise you to get across to the Open House Festival website and get yours now.
Here are a few of the musical highlights that we would highly recommend checking out:
Sunbeam Festival – Saturday 6th August 2016
Sunbeam is a new one-day, open-air, FREE mini-festival that lets you enjoy music, food and drink on Bangor seafront. The day will feature performances from indie rockers, Echo Raptors, a chilled out session from the Twitch DJs and a headline set from the funky NI Soul Troop.
PORTS – Sunday 14th August 2016
The Derry band recently released their debut album and will play a special show in the Marine Court Hotel alongside the Prima String Quartet & the Open House Festival Choir. The three different acts will collaborate for a very special, one-off evening of music.
The Damned – Saturday 27th August 2016
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the birth of punk, the band who released the first punk single (New Rose), the first punk album and were the first punk band to tour the USA will play Bangor. Featuring original members Dave Vanian and Captain Sensible, The Damned will play all the hits from their 40-year career.
Swimming Tapes – Sunday 28th August 2016
Swimming Tapes feature two of the lads from Bangor favourites, Kowalski, in what is a sort of homecoming show. Lo-fi, sunshine tinged pop will be the order of the day for the London based five-piece who will also be joined by local boys, In An Instant.
