Now in its 9th year the Sound of Belfast programmed has been announced by the Oh Yeah Music Centre.
The programme features over 40 events/gigs across 12 different venues in Belfast between 10th and 20th November 2022. The 2021 programme was delivered almost exclusively online so it is a very welcome return to in person events and live music for 2022.
Fittingly there will be a special birthday party for the organisers as the Oh Yeah Music Centre reaches the grand old age of 15. While another birthday party is in order for the slightly younger but no less important YEO magazine’s 2nd birthday. We are looking forward to plenty of cake…
A highlight every year is the Northern Ireland Music Prize. The competition is stronger than ever in 2022 and the event will feature a presentation to and performance from Barry Devlin and Horslips friends.
Across the period, you’ll find a broad spectrum of genres and artists including Leo Miyagee, Dana Masters, Winnie Ama, Siobhan Brown, Gareth Dunlop, David Lyttle, Virgins, Villagers, Modern Love, Ciara O’Neill, Family Tribe & Joel Harkin.
Charlotte Dryden of Oh Yeah said “We are really proud of our UNESCO status, it proves beyond doubt that music plays a significant role in our community life, is woven into the fabric of our vibrant and welcoming nightlife and demonstrates the rich heritage, present strength and future potential of our music scene. The Sound of Belfast festival is about being proud of what we offer as well as taking the time to talk about the challenges. Thanks to all that have contributed to this year’s events, it’s a fantastic snapshot of a thriving music city.”
As well as celebrating the wonderful music our scene has to offer, the festival is working with local charity Foodstock. Attendees of the programme are encouraged to bring along and donate food items to the charity. The charity will ensure those donations get to people struggling this winter and will help fill the shelves of food banks right across Belfast during this cost of living crisis.
