Our fortnightly gig guide picks out a handful of must see gigs taking place across Northern Ireland.

Beginning with definitive rock and ending with a variety of anticipated pride celebrations, July is packed full of a endless variety of gigs. 


SONI Presents: Alpha Twin – The Empire – Saturday 15th July 2023

Up-and-coming electrifying alt-rock group Alpha Twin have rounded up a hard hitting line-up as they headline Empire alongside Reasy Ajarro, Triggertone and Dirt Cheap. With influences such as Rage against the Machine and Queens of the Stone Age, this trios use of distorted riffs and angsty rhythmic vocals create a distinct, forceful sound.

Glacier – American Bar – Thursday 20th July 2023

Indie-rock newcomers Glacier take the stage for their debut gig alongside psych-rock four piece Madams Last Discovery and Paranoid. A night of fresh acts, and a promising reflection of the current local music scene.

E.B and the Deadlights – Oh Yeah Music Centre – Saturday 22nd July 2023

Upon gaining major momentum and acclaim following their momentous support slot for iconic Misfits guitarist Doyle, heavy shock rock group E.B. and the deadlights are set for an unforgettable headbanging headline show. Their debut album ‘Echoes of a dreamless life’ released just last month, expect thrashing guitar, booming drums and piercing vocals.

The Night Institute Birthday Party – Ulster Sports Club – Saturday 22nd July 2023

The Night Institute is an independent creative community in Belfast who have been throwing parties in pubs, clubs and open-air spaces and collaborate with the country’s sharpest creative minds. This July the Night Institute celebrate 8 years with Timmy Stewart & Jordan Nocturne going open to close. It’s going to get sweaty, it’s going to be loose. It’s The Night Institute in full swing.

Get On It: Pride Party – Oh Yeah Music Centre – Thursday 27th July 2023

YEO magazine’s booming ‘Get on it’ nights have become renowned as unmissable, unforgettable and a downright riot. Come along as they set the energy for pride, with no other than up-and-coming electro disco act spdpk, pop-rock superstars Cherym and the vivacious punk trio Jock. A triad of local queer talent.

Makeshift Art Bar – Union Bar – Friday 28th July 2023

Shoegazey post-punk trio perform at the iconic students union bar for their debut headline gig. With a sound reminiscent of joy division and my bloody valentine, this act is certainly not one to miss. The similarly melancholic ‘Funeral rose’ are set to support, I predict a night of haunting vocals and dreamy guitar noise.

Volume Control x Feile an Phobail: Pride – City Hall, Belfast – Thursday 6th – Saturday 8th July 2023

Oh Yeah’s youth team Volume Control have partnered with the renowned Feile an Phobail festival to create a post-pride parade stage, celebrating the queer music of NI directly at City Hall. This line-up is one to look out for, from assertive, inclusive punk trio Gender Chores to the whimsical yet distinctive radical Strange New Places. Hang around after pride to catch these anticipated acts!
