A real struggle this week for my trio of must see gigs, but I’ve remained disciplined and not pushed for more. What I would say though is have a nosey at the Open House Festival website as their excellent selection of gigs begin this week and they’re well worth attending.
Ciaran Lavery – Black Box, Belfast – Thursday 19th June 2014
Alt-folk troubadour Ciaran Lavery has been busy working on his latest EP, Kosher. Thursday night as part of the Open House Festival, Ciaran releases his new effort in the serene surroundings of the Black Box. Support from Silences and Kate O’Callaghan.
Admission is £6 on the door
Wonder Villains – Bar Sub, Belfast – Saturday 21st June 2014
The debut album from the Wonder Villains has been a long time coming, but finally they’re ready for the big reveal. I suspect it will be a carnival kind of atmosphere as the Villains show off the new record amongst most of the movers and shakers of the NI music scene. Support from Be Like Pablo.
Tickets are £5 on the door or you can buy online here for £8 and get a copy of the new album too.
Electric Mainline Special – Playhouse, Londonderry – Saturday 21st June 2014
Local music aficionado Stephen McCauley and presenter of BBC Radio Ulster’s Electric Mainline show is putting on a special local music showcase for Music City Day 2014. On the night SOAK, SlowPlaceLikeHome, Ego the Jackal, Gaze is Ghost and Wood Burning Savages will feature.
The tickets for the special are free, but recipients will be chosen from a random drawing of applicants. The deadline for applications is Tuesday 17th June at 12 noon. All applications for tickets must be made online. If you are interested in coming along to see the show, apply for tickets now at www.bbc.co.uk/tickets, where you can also find the full terms and conditions.
