Donegal based singer-songwriter Dean Maywood releases ‘Jane’ the lead single from his upcoming debut EP, due to follow in May. An almost Eagles-esque intro is beautifully accompanied with a delicate helping of slide guitar (courtesy of Patsy Gallagher).
Siobhan McShane provides equally unimposing backing vocals, letting Maywood’s acoustic guitar and American influenced vocals take centre stage. The song itself is a beautifully told tale of heartbreak. Good pal and fellow songwriter Darren Doherty (who also acted as producer), adds a brief, subtle guitar solo which knows not to outstay its welcome. There are hints of Neil Young bubbling under too-the entire song is very much (intentionally) understated.
Maywood has a captivating sound, distinctive vocal style and with stunning songs like this in his armoury deserves to heard far and wide.
