Seemingly on a crusade to prove you can write a great song about anything. Derry fizz-pop revellers Wonder Villains have made their first musical imprint on 2014 with their sit-com inspired track ‘Marshall’.
The song is an ode to the character Marshall Eriksen from US laugher-track romp ‘How I Met Your Mother’, and joins an ever growing back catalogue peppered with pop-culture references. (With Space Jam, Cool Runnings and Bruce Springsteen all having been given the Wonder Villains treatment).
Although only lasting a nippy 2 minutes 21 seconds ‘Marshall’ might just be their biggest earworm yet. The whole song feels a lot more mature than their previous singles, yet keeps the youthful vibrancy the quartet are known for. Silky synths and a tangy guitar line ensures you’ll be reaching for the repeat button time and time again.
“Marshall” is out on 24th March, with their debut album, ‘Rocky’, set for a 23rd June release.
