Brand New Friend Win Kickstart 2016

Over 90 musicians & bands from Northern Ireland entered the competition back in January and through a series of judging panels, the huge number of quality entrants was whittled down to just four. On Thursday evening, we hosted a fantastic evening of live music in the Eglantine Bar in Belfast to bring an end to this year’s Kickstart competition. A packed bar of music fans were treated to four magnificent performances from Brand New Friend, Dandelion Tea, Ink Spelt Death & Saturn Sundown.

After some heated discussions between our esteemed panel of judges, it was deemed that Brand New Friend would be very worthy winners of the 2016 edition of our Kickstart competition. They will now get to work with a host of great local organisations in an attempt to give them a real boost in 2016. We cannot wait to see what this young band has in store for us next.

Thank you to all the bands and musicians for entering, to everyone who came down to the showcase final and of course everyone who sponsored the competition this year. This year yet again raised the bar for our competition and we look forward to starting the process again in early 2017.

We highly recommend these organisations should you require their services:

  • Interview - New Pagans

"Supporting local is the way forward. We want venues that are locally run, supporting local bands, but bringing big bands in too. I’m very optimistic, I think it’s going to be wonderful when it all opens up.”

We spoke to New Pagans’ Lyndsey McDougall about the band’s debut album, politics and motherhood in music, and the pandemic.
