This week’s gig guide comes to you a little later than usual as I was recovering from a tiring yet very enjoyable Saturday at Radio 1’s Big Weekend. Admittedly a number of the bands on show were definitely not my cup of tea but performances by Biffy Clyro and the Vaccines more than made up for it. On another note, a promised exclusive gig announcement I promised for the end of last week had to be postponed but I am hopeful we will be able to confirm it soon!
Transmit: Runaway Go – Limelight 2 – Wednesday 29th May 2013
Transmit gigs tend to make a regular appearance on my gig guide and this week is no exception. Headlined this week by Chordblossom favourites Runaway Go. Fresh from the release of their new single ‘This Is Real’ the band continue to garner new fans and praise from local media. Support on the evening comes from Amidships and Hologram!
Entry is a measly £3!
Chris Keys – The Empire – Thursday 30th May 2013
Chris Keys launches his new EP ‘View From a Satellite’ into the magnificent venue that is the Empire. A nice mix of folk and indie will be on show and if you consider he has played with grammy award winning Nanci Griffith. Support comes from Microlip and the runner up of our Kickstarter competition, Sara Crockett.
Tickets are £5 and are only available from the door!
Young Guns – Mandela Hall – Sunday 2nd June 2013
London rockers have been building an impressive fan base and have continued to fill out bigger and bigger venues. Their sound has similarly reached new levels (check out ‘Bones’ if you don’t believe me). Currently nominated for Best British band in Kerrang! magazine, you should see them before them before they take the next step. Support comes from Blitz Kids and Derry/Londonderry rockers MakingMonsters!
Tickets are £14.50 and available from Ticketmaster
Special Mention: Helfast 2013 – Limelight 2 – Saturday 1st June 2013
The Distortion Project, Paradise City and Blink Management come together this summer to bring you an all day mini-festival of hard rock and heavy metal, right in the heart of Belfast. The line-up features Stormzone, NASA Assassin Triggerman, Warcrux and Altus.
Tickets are £10 on the door
