As summer gig season comes to a mournful close once and for all, we are treated with a fortnight of unforgettable live music.
Volume Control: Indie Nile – Oh Yeah Music Centre – 17 August 2023
Indulge in a night of classic teen angsty indie-rock, a final night of music induced triumph before the anticipation of dreaded results day inevitably creeps up. Headlining, we have the captivating, melodious Beauty Sleep, an alt-pop duo rising in the local scene upon the release of accomplished debut album ‘Be kind’.
Additionally, equally prominent solo-artists take the stage, striking singer/songwriter Ethan Hollan, and indie-folk musician Max Sloan’ Fresh alternative-rock newcomers, Glacier play as their second gig succeeding buzzing sell-out at American bar. Due to their astounding win at Banbridge Buskfest, prodigal teen Mullholland sisters have been added as a special guest, expect captivating vocal harmonies and recognisable acoustic covers from this duo.
HRT Fest – Oh Yeah Music Centre – 18 August 2023
The vastly progressing ‘Half hearted promotions’ conduct their debut day-long fest, celebrating an array of Northern Ireland’s up-and-coming talents. Headliners, Disorder have made a lasting name in the current scene, expressing lyrics of political indignation and integrity, and commanding the stage intensely. This prominent line-up includes grunge-pop trio Lip Gloss as well as punk inspired alternative rock four-piece Vandal.
Modern Rome – The Little Theatre – 18 August 2023
Alt-rock Belfast based three-piece Modern Rome present ‘A night at the theatre’, a eccentric and eminent gig valuing the opportunity to showcase small local acts for free, something essential in the live music scene as a whole. Selected support includes grungy rock band Foreign Mornings as well as Bangor-based indie-pop singer songwriter Karl Beare, a sound reminiscent of local legends Snow Patrol and Foy Vance.
The Florentinas – Court House Bangor – 26 August 2023
Bangors own Open house festival makes its return in cosy Courthouse pub, and the renowned indie rock sensations the Florentinas are set to perform a vivacious set in their hometown, only one of many. Supporting, sparkling pop princess Susi Pagel takes the stage, expect an eclectic night of thrill.
Gazefest – Oh Yeah Music Centre – 26 August 2023
Shoegaze is on the rise in the scene, and Old Crows Promotions’ gazefest is proof of this. Ten dreamy acts are set to perform, headlined by definitive and shimmering ‘Virgins’ whose fuzzy grungey riffs complement their melancholic, profound lyricism. Alongside we see familiar names such as bubble grunge rockers Wynona Bleach and Psychedelic newcomers Madams Last Discovery.
