Christmas celebrations seem to start earlier and earlier each year with many shops stocking selection boxes and putting up decorations before Halloween is over. Thankfully our local bands are more after my own heart with a phenomenal amount of gigs in this last week before the big festivities. I’ve had to increase my number of picks to 5 as there are simply so many good gigs on offer.
David C Clements – Cathedral, Lisburn – Tuesday 17th December 2013
Mr Clements has been a regular feature on Chordblossom in 2013 and I’m pleased to see him headline such a unique venue to close out the year. He sounded amazing in St Anne’s Cathedral in Belfast so this is an experience not to be missed. Support comes the equally talented Malojian and Rosie Carney.
Admission is £8.85 and are available from EventBrite
SO:NI: Nasa Assassin – Hague’s Bar, Lisburn – Wednesday 18th December 2013
Psychedelic rockers Nasa Assassin will headline SO:NI’s Christmas party in what has been quite the successful year for the promoters. It also marks the launch of Nasa Assassin’s debut album, Area 69. Support is from Pay*ola, 20 Second Century and Shudd.
Admission is £4.50 on the door
Sullivan & Gold – 101 Central, Belfast – Friday 20th December 2013
Sullivan & Gold have been a surprise package for all of us at CB, their debut album was a gorgeous dreamy concept album that swept us off our feet. They headline a special Smalltown America Christmas show with their label mates, Our Krypton Son and Little Bear.
Admission is £10 on the door or £7.70 in advance from WeGotTickets
Go Wolf – Stiff Kitten, Belfast – Friday 20th December 2013
Go Wolf won over the attention of local music critics in 2013 and smashed their performances during Belfast Music Week. They close out the year with a massive headline performance with a stunning bill of Yes Cadets, Travis Is A Tourist, Hurdles, Ed Zealous DJs and The Thin Air DJs.
Admission is £5 on the door or £6.00 in advance from Ticketmaster
Kowalski – Black Box, Belfast – Sunday 22nd December 2013
Kowalski moved to London to try to kickstart their music careers but Open House Festival have managed to convince them to come home for their annual Christmas show. Their annual shows are normally great banter and we aren’t likely to see them on home turf for another while. Support hasn’t been finalised but In An Instant have been confirmed.
Admission is £10 on the door or £7.00 in advance from Open House Festival
